A Playbook for Wireless Charging for Product Innovators

What is Wireless Power?

The term “wireless charging” gets thrown around a lot these days.

It is a simple concept with huge economic potential, but the only ‘wireless’ charging devices currently on the market are smartphone charging pads—which aren’t really wireless at all.

The base technology used to bring these pads to life is known as Non-Radiative WPT, which only works over very short distances. The pad itself must still be connected to a power outlet and cannot charge devices while they are in use, making it more of a novelty than a real solution.

The Future of Wireless Power Technology

Wireless charging pads are not the ultimate innovation. In fact, the entire concept of ‘wireless charging’ is a retrofit model that attempts to make the most of a bad situation. When power is available everywhere, all the time, the question is no longer, “How quickly can you charge your device?” but rather:

What’s possible when your device doesn’t need to be charged at all?

When mobile devices no longer need wires or even batteries to operate, there will be no limit to the potential for innovation. Real Wireless Power will change the entire mobile economy, including how devices are invented, manufactured, and sold.

Consumer Demand for Wireless Power Technology

Despite its limitations, the introduction of wireless charging created an immediate consumer demand as Android, Samsung, Apple, Toyota, and even Ikea began to adopt the technology.

Consumers have been quick to envision a world without wires and companies are scrambling to be the first to incorporate wireless power technology into new products. Unfortunately, the technology has not kept up with the demand, until now.

What Makes Cota Real Wireless Power Technology Different?

Cota Real Wireless Power is the first giant leap in wireless power technology. It is a stream of continuous power that can safely travel over any distance.

Unlike its predecessors, which rely on coils and alternating currents, Cota Real Wireless Power technology can:

  • Power devices at any distance
  • Power multiple devices simultaneously
  • Power devices while in motion
  • Power devices without line of sight
  • Control which devices receive power and when

When compared to traditional wireless power transmission, Cota Real Wireless Power technology is in a league of its own.

How does Real Wireless Power Technology work?

Cota Real Wireless Power uses technology similar to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to create an environment that keeps any number of digital devices fully powered at all times.

The Cota Power Receiver, embedded into any device initiates the ‘conversation’ by sending a beacon signal to find a Cota Power Transmitter. The transmitter then sends power back in the same path. This ‘conversation’ between device and transmitter happens 100x/second to send power safely to devices at a distance while in motion.

Cota hardware, along with a Cota cloud-based service, gives you control over which devices receive power and when.

Real Wireless Power and What it Means for New Wireless Products

Smartphones may have spurred the wireless charging revolution but that is just the beginning. Cota Real Wireless Power extends to all mobile devices and IoT networks, significantly impacting:

  • Convenience
  • Efficiency
  • Cost
  • Innovation

From smart cars that power their own internal sensors to life-saving products that prevent biomedical devices from failing—there are boundless applications for Cota Real Wireless Power technology. Find out what Real Wireless Power can do for you!

From Wireless Charging Pads to a Wireless World

The majority of mobile manufacturers, including Apple and Google, offer wireless charging pads powered by Qi technology. While it may not be the final solution to our mobile challenges, it did create a serious demand for digital products equipped with wireless charging capabilities.

Fortunately, while there are many differences between Qi wireless charging mats and Cota Real Wireless Power, they can coexist together in the same device without limiting either technology. As consumers become more aware of what’s possible, product innovators have a lucrative opportunity to introduce Real Wireless Power into new products without compromising the investments they have already made.

Soon, ‘wireless charging pads’ will be a thing of the past. But for now, it is just the first step in creating a wireless world. And as some companies slowly discover that holding onto outdated technology is just one of several key mistakes made by product manufacturers, those willing to imagine what is possible with Real Wireless Power will be way ahead of the curve.

What Real Wireless Power Means for New Wireless Products

The key to wireless charging is being completely wireless—no pads, no wires, no batteries.

Keeping retail environments, industrial IoT networks, homes, and personal devices powered without cords will not only make life more convenient, it will change what’s possible. When chips and sensors no longer need access to a battery, there is no limit to the size, shape, or configuration of digital devices used for manufacturing, transportation, and entertainment.

Doing business in a world that is continuously powered means reimagining the way consumer products are manufactured and marketed in every industry.

Wireless Power for Smart Homes

The automated home is continuing to transform year after year. Voice assisted appliances and sensors, automated security systems, smart light bulbs, and much more are part of the growing IoT home. Wireless Power in Smart Homes is essential to meet the growing needs of homeowners.

With a simple wireless power transmitter and receiver inside a home, manufacturers and designers can transform the domestic space with new, slimmer, efficiently powered home appliances and systems. There will be no need to incorporate bulky batteries into smoke alarms or manage an eight-foot long cord for a vacuum cleaner.

Wireless Power for the Automotive Industry and Autonomous Cars

The days of digging through the glove box to find the right car charger may be long gone when Your Next Car May Have Real Wireless Power Built Right In. Cutting the cord will bring relief to drivers and passengers everywhere when devices can begin charging the second they enter the car.

With a wireless transmitter built right into the hood or dashboard, wireless power is delivered simultaneously to personal devices and the automotive sensors that indicate everything from fluid levels to tire pressure. These product innovations are just the tip of the iceberg of how adopting wireless power will change the face of cars as you know them.

It wasn’t many years ago that an autonomous car felt like a dream, but driverless cars are already hitting public roads in the US. With this major technological shift come new opportunities to explore the wireless revolution and innovate automotive products in brand new ways.
